Family Support Centers

Child & Family Guidance Center partners with the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department (TPCHD), Child Protective Service (CPS), Tacoma School District, and  Family Support Partnership (FSP) to provide a number of programs. Our goal is to provide support to families that promotes mutual respect, open communication, and joint problem solving, while valuing and building on family strengths. We also provide at-risk families information, support and skills they need to raise healthy, productive citizens.

Through the Family Support Centers we offer:

·     Alternative Response System: CPS refers families that have “low risk” allegations of abuse and/or neglect.  Services are available up to 90 days to help decrease risk factors, and increase safety and stability for families.

·    Readiness to Learn:   Readiness to Learn is offered to families in collaboration with local schools to assist in reducing barriers that hinder their children’s success in school.  Services are directed towards promoting school readiness, attendance and achievement.

·    Healthy Families:  Healthy Families provides parenting education and support to pregnant parents and families with children up to 5 years of age.  Services are offered to promote healthy development and family stability.

  •   Maternity Support Services (MSS):

Behavioral Health Specialists work with pregnant women and provide the following services:

·     Assure that the mother and their environment have been fully assessed including strengths and areas for psychosocial intervention

·     Direct interventions and outcomes (Medical coupons are required for this service.  Pregnant women, doctors, and other service providers can refer.)

Goals of the Family Support Centers include:

  • Finding practical solutions to problems
  • Growth and development
  • Connecting with community resources
  • Learning stress management skills
  • Improving communication skills
  • Working toward improving relationship skills
  • Improving parenting skills
  • Teaching self care
