Child & Family Guidance
Center is recognized as a
leader in Pierce County in the field of community-based outpatient mental
health services. More than 7,000 individuals turn to the Center in moments
of crisis each year. Many come from extremely low income backgrounds and had
no other access to essential mental health or early education services. In some cases, the
services we provided resulted in saving lives.
We Strengthen Families through early
childhood education, mental health recovery for young victims of abuse and
neglect, and family support services in coordination with our community
partners.
We have been at work with young children and families in Tacoma since the
organization was known as Associated Charities, founded in 1895. The mission
of Child & Family Guidance Center is: We strengthen families
by inspiring courage and confidence to make a lasting change. Tacoma
Learning Center (TLC), founded as an agency in 1981, recently became a
program of Child & Family Guidance Center, providing comprehensive
early learning and cooperative preschool to children, ages birth to 3,
specializing with
developmental and learning delays. The merger between CFGC and the TLC paved
the way for an organization-wide team that is well equipped to work
strengthening the whole family in the whole of Pierce County. Key
elements of this partnership include early childhood education and therapy
services, parent education, marriage and family counseling, and providing
access to any resources needed for families in diverse situations to
experience success raising healthy children prepared for life-long learning.
Child &
Family Guidance Center
has gained a respected reputation for our focused attention to the needs of
all families and our outstanding masters internship training program.
